The following public comments to Hawaii Dairy Farms Waste Management Plan were in response to a request from the Department of Health’s Wastewater branch.
Kawailoa’s Original Comments to HDF’s Waste Management Plan
Kawailoa (owner of Grand Hyatt Kaua’i and Poi’pu Bay Golf Course) did not realize that, until August 6, 2014, a due date of August 11, 2014 had been established for comments. The experts submitting comments have worked diligently, but were on previously scheduled travel in addition to facing the time challenges related to the scope of the review. Some experts were simply not available and would not available for several more weeks. Kawailoa intends to send the Department complete comments as soon as they are received from their experts. Kawailoa requested that the Department consider the comments, in their entirety.
Note:
- Hawaii Dairy Farms’ project was first announced over a half year ago. The Dairy has had at least that long of a period to develop the Plan and to consider its impacts.
- Although Kawailoa understood that the due date for comments initially was set for Friday, August 8, 2014, State offices were closed on such date.

Kawailoa’s Additional Comments to Hawaii Dairy Farms’ Waste Management Plan
This letter supplements Kawailoa’s letter of August 11, 2014. In the prior letter, they presented preliminary comments on behalf of Kawailoa Development LLP (“Kawailoa”) regarding Hawaii Dairy Farms’ Waste Management Plan (“Plan”), dated July 23, 2014, for its proposed dairy farm (“Dairy”) in Maha`ulepu, Kauai. At the time that they submitted their first set of comments, some of the experts were simply not available due to previously scheduled travel commitments. The comments that are now submitted with this letter are in addition to those submitted earlier.
